I love books. Designing a beautiful cover, arranging the inner pages, and crafting something tangible—it’s an art form. It takes time to develop concepts, refine the layout, and prepare everything for print. But when you finally hold the finished book in your hands? That feeling makes it all worth it.
So when Schlomo, the Director of Olami Germany, approached me with a new project, I was excited. He needed printing files for an Amidah guidebook—a compact companion for his class on Jewish prayer. And there was a catch: it had to be done fast!
The Process
Since we were printing with Flyeralarm, I studied their datasheet to ensure everything met their specs. Using InDesign, I arranged the pages for readability, leaving enough safety margins to prevent text from being cut off. For the cover, I quickly mocked up concepts in Canva to get Schlomo’s approval before finalizing the design in InDesign.
Once everything was set, I took care of communications and ordering with Flyeralarm. Two weeks later, the books arrived—and they were a success!
The Takeaway
Seeing the finished book in the hands of students was incredibly rewarding. This project reinforced something I already knew: I want to create more books. The process—meticulous, creative, and even therapeutic—is something I genuinely enjoy.
And trust me, this won’t be my last one.
